The Rainbow Obsidian stone is a rare variety of naturally-colorful Obsidian found mainly in Jalisco, Mexico. It is a naturally occurring volcanic glass and its colors are created by Hedenbergite nanoparticles caught within the volcanic glass. It's formed during the eruption of felsic lavas or rather silicate minerals, magma, and rocks which are enriched in the lighter elements such as silicon, oxygen, aluminum, sodium, and potassium. The viscosity of Felsic lava (the thick, sticky, semifluid-consistency created by internal friction), is higher than mafic lava. Obsidians are distinguished by having high concentrations of the chemical element silica and because of their high silica content, felsic lavas don't behave like the mafic, or silica-poor, lavas. So Rainbow Obsidian actually forms when lava cools at different times, capturing Magnetite nanoparticles within its layers. These Magnetite nanoparticles cause multicolored iridescence, or the rainbow refraction effect of light waves when any light hits it. is said to work by grounding out negativity to let light in. All Obsidians are grounding and encourage us to love truth. Particularly, Rainbow Obsidian encourages hope and perseverance. It helps with major problem and struggles. Its energy reminds us that hard times don’t last forever and that diligence and intelligence can guide us on to the other side. It is useful when used to help soften and ease the effects of shock or fear. Obsidian is said to help protect the over sensitive against depression. Rainbow Obsidian is said to bring love, joy and light into your life.
